What is image color analysis?

Beyond dominant colors

Basic tools stop at 5 swatches. This analyzer also measures the image as a whole: mean RGB average, perceived-brightness %, saturation %, warm/cool temperature by red-blue balance, luminance-range contrast, and a human mood label (Soft/Bold, Warm/Cool, Airy/Moody/Calm).

From the primary dominant color it derives analogous, complementary and triadic harmonies, plus production roles (Primary, Secondary, Accent, Dark, Light) so you leave with a usable system, not just swatches. Everything runs locally via Canvas.

Real-life examples

Brand extraction from logos

Upload a logo or screenshot to pull Primary/Secondary/Accent plus Dark/Light neutrals for a v1 design system.

Photo mood for campaigns

Mood (Calm/Soft/Cool vs Bold/Warm) plus temperature tells you if a hero feels airy or moody before launch.

UI theming from inspiration

Use Dark/Light roles for surfaces and text, Accent for CTAs, and harmonies for hover states, all from one photo.

Content & social consistency

Keep feeds cohesive: match new covers to dominant hues and average-color tints as placeholder backgrounds.

Photography QA

Brightness/saturation/contrast numbers flag washed-out or muddy shots; coverage bars reveal background dominance skew.

Accessibility start

Pair Dark/Light roles and jump to the contrast checker to verify text pairs before shipping.

Frequently asked questions

1How is this different from the palette generator?
Palette gives swatches. Analyzer adds average color, brightness/saturation %, temperature, contrast range, mood, harmonies and production roles (Primary/Secondary/Accent/Dark/Light) with coverage.
2How are dominant colors and % calculated?
Same shared engine: ~12k sampled pixels, 6-bit quantization, frequency sort, 0.08 distance merge. Coverage bars show relative share of the top 5.
3What do brightness, saturation, temperature mean?
Brightness is mean perceived luminance; saturation is mean colorfulness; temperature counts warm (red>blue) vs cool pixels. Contrast is luminance range (Low/Medium/High).
4Is my image uploaded?
No. Canvas reads happen locally. Free, no signup, private by design.
